Circumstances of Death
Thomas died of Infective Endocartitis at the Colchester Military Hospital. Infective endocarditis (IE) is described as a potentially fatal inflammation of your heart valves’ lining and sometimes heart chambers’ lining. This occurs when germs (usually bacteria) from elsewhere in your body enter your bloodstream and attach to and attack the lining of your heart valves and/or chambers. Infective endocarditis is also called bacterial endocarditis (BE) or acute, subacute (SBE) or chronic bacterial endocarditis. Thomas was fighting in the trenches for three years when we died and could have picked up the bacteria at any stage. We have not been able to find exactly when he was first admitted to a field hospital /clearing station before being evacutated to Colchester. |
