Circumstances of Death

Frederick is listed by the CWGC as being killed in action on 18 Sep 1916, however his Grave Registration document on the CWGC gives the date of death as 17 Sep 1916. The war diary entries for that period are all very brief and the period 16th to 19th inclusive is transcribed below.

Canal Bank E of Poperinghe - 16-2-16: No entry made in diary

17-2-16: Battalion relieved 11 K.R.R.C in trenches. The relief was longer than usual owing to bright moonlight. No casualties.

18-2-16: Enemy on the whole quiet, except for worrying M.G. fire at night.

19-2-16: Enemy's artillery active, about mid-day & continued so until dusk but little damage done. At 4.28pm an S.O.S was received from F34. END
