From his service number, 9151, we can state that Harry enlisted after 1 Jan 1907 when number 9134 was issued and prior to 20 Aug 1908 when number 9800 was issued. He joined on the same day as his older brother Arthur who was number 9150.
Circumstances of Death

Harry is listed as being killed in action on 14 Aug 1917. The war diary for the whole month of August 1917 consists of 1 line entries. The entry for the 14th though is two lines and is transcribed below and it appears that he was killed whilst the Battalion were being relieved from the front lines. 14th - Himalaya Trench [East of Arras]: Relieved by 1st Hampshire and moved back to Balmoral Camp in Divn Reserve. 5 O.R. Killed and 6 O.R. Wounded. END |
