Newspaper Report

The Stratford-upon-Avon Herald - Friday October 4th 1918

Quinton. Private Henry Hughes, whose widowed mother, Mrs. D Hughes resides at Admington, in the Parish of Quinton was killed in action by the premature bursting of the charge of a trench mortar gun. He was 29 years of age and it worthy of note that the day he died, September 11th, was the exact anniversary of the day he joined up, four years ago.

He was won special distinction for bravery and good service in the Irish Brigade and at the conclusion of a letter of sympathy and appreciation to his mother his officer writes:- "He was respected by all, both officers and men"; another writes "We are all very sad at losing him"
