Frederick is listed as dying of Bronchial Pneumonia & wounds from a Gas Shell explosion on 26th September 1918 at the No. 3 Canadian General Hospital in Boulogne. We strongly suspect from a very faint outline of a date in his service record that he was gassed on 20th September 1918 which is a supported by a single line entry from 19th Brigade, Royal Garrison Artlillery war diary (of which 297th Siege Battery became a part in February 1918) which states: 51B.O.14.a.45.85 [SE of Monchy-le-Preux] - 20/9/18: Position of 297 S.B heavily shelled with gas and H.E [High Explosive].
