Circumstances of Death

William's chain of medical evacuation and events leading to his death are as follows:

  • 20 Aug 1917 - Admitted to 35th Field Ambulance, Ypres, with diarrhea
  • 25 Aug 1917 - Transferred to 12th Casualty Clearing Station, Mendinghem, Ypres, with diarrhea
  • 25 Aug 1917 - Transferred to 54th General Hospital, Aubengue, with diarrhea
  • 28 Aug 1917 - Transferred to 8th Stationary Hospital, Wimereux with diarrhea
  • 17 Sep 1917 - Transferred to 14th Stationary Hospital, Wimereux now suspected of having Enteric Fever
  • 07 Oct 1917 - Transferred to England via Boulogne and admitted to the Edinburgh War Hospital
  • 01 Mar 1918 - Medical board at Edinburgh War Hospital found him unfit to serve because of severe diarrhea.
  • 09 Apr 1918 - Discharged from the Army because of ill health. He was given a Silver War Badge.
  • 13 Nov 1918 - Died of Pneumonia (Spanish Flu?) at home, 5 Kenilworth Street, Leamington
