Circumstances of Death

William is listed as dying of wounds on 8th October 1918 and was originally buried in a small Cemetery / Graveyard near Cagnicourt at Map Reference 51b.V.8.c.3.7 before his remains were later moved to the Queant Road Cemetery (CWGC record for re-burial). He was buried with 5 other men from his Company.

Unfortunately we are unable to find a war diary and it is unlikely that one exists as Labour Corps units were not required to keep them, except in certain circumstances.

The 159th Company was formed with men from the 10th (Labour) Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment in 1917 under Army Council Instruction 611 of 1917.
