Circumstances of Death

William is listed as dying of wounds received in action on 24th July 1916 at the No 6 General Hospital in Rouen. According to newspaper reports he was wounded in the head, spine, neck and foot. The Warwickshire Roll of Honour book states that he was wounded at Festubert in May 1916, however the 2nd Battalion war diary places the Battalion some 70 kilometers away in the Morlandcourt area during May 1916.

The war diary does not give us any clues as to which day William was wounded on and therefore we cannot comment as to how he was wounded.
