Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

John died from gunshot wounds to chest and side which were incurred sometime between the 21st and 23rd August during which time the battalion had been engaged in a successful action to capture enemy positions from a starting point west of Bucquoy. John would have died in one of the numerous military medical facilities at Etaples which included 11 military hospitals.
