Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

There is conflicting information about which battalion Charles was in and the place where he was killed. We have listed the 2nd option below because of the following.

  1. The Warwickshire Roll of Honour Book stated that Frank's battalion was the 2nd/5th. The Roll of Honour further stated that Charles was killed during the the capture of Boulon Wood during the Battle of Cambrai. However the war diary for the 2nd/5th shows that they were in reserve at Ruyaulcourt and took no part in any battle during that week.
  2. However the CWGC website, Soldiers Who Died and Soldiers Register of Effects documents state that Charles was in the 2nd Battalion. On the day that Charles was killed the 2nd Battalion was in the line NE of Passchendaele (see map) which was subject of heavy shelling during which Charles was killed.
