Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
On the 12th October 1916 the 12th Infantry Brigade including 1st Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment continued the attack on Le Transloy Ridge started on the 10th October. The 1st Battalion made it into Foggy Trench, but were forced out by a German counter-attack. The 12th Infantry Brigade made it into Spectrum Trench and Zenith Trench, but were also pushed out by the subsequent German counter-attack. John was wounded by shellfire during the attack and died in a Field Ambulance.
