Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Arthur was admitted to the 34th Casualty Clearing Station on 8 Oct 1918, with gun shot wounds to the leg and neck. The following day he was operated on by a Capt Rice who dressed the wounds and then he placed on the "sick convoy" and taken from the 34th CCS, which at that time was at Grevillers, to one of the medical facillities in the Wimereux area on the coast near Boulogne. The journey was at least 150 km's and was most likely by train. Click here for the 34 CCS admission records (PDF).

Albert died around 15 days after he was wounded. The war diary shows that he was one of 108 men wounded on 8 Oct 1918 during the battalions attack on an enemy position on the La Targette-Forenville Road, which was SE of Cambrai. Please click here for the battalions 3 page Report on Operations (PDF) for that day.
