Circumstances of Death

George is listed as being killed in action on 9th April 1917. The 2nd/7th BattaIion war diary entries 

Fresnoy le Petit - 8 Apr 1917: At 7pm C Company and 2 platoons of B Company attacked the village of Fresnoy le Petit and after strong opposition reached their objective taking one prisoner. Total casualties 14 killed, 2 missing, 2 died of wounds and 37 wounded. One officer A/Capt Birch was sniped before action commenced. HQ's moved back to Keepers House from Battle Hdqrs after the action.

Fresnoy le Petit - 9 Apr 1917: Troops consolidating as far as possible during the day the captured position. The battalion was relieved by the 2/5 Warwicks commencing at 5pm and was completed by 10.50pm. On relief Coys proceeded to dug outs at Marteville, Bn being in close support. 11 bodies were buried under cover of the afternoon before the battalion retired.

Douilly - 10 Apr 1918: Battn moved to billets at Douilly being relieved by the 17th Lanc Fus. Left at 12 noon. Dinners were taken on route. Arrived at 4.20pm. Several violent snow storms accompanied by high winds occurred during the march.
